General Objectives of the Module:

This module will introduce the students to various ecological zones of Bhutan, identify and describe the role and importance of forest structure and how it influences biodiversity. The course emphasizes on dynamic nature of forest, grassland and alpine environments and the role of natural and human disturbances and their effects on biodiversity development and ecological stability. This module will also introduce the students to different biomes of the world and plant successions.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module, learners will be able to:

·        Explain different divisions of ecology,

·        Identify the characteristics of the ecological zones of Bhutan,

·        Describe how forest structure affects plant survival, growth and reproduction and  wildlife habitat,

·        Describe the role, importance and attributes of disturbance and how it affects the development of forest vegetation,

·        Explain the concept of population dynamics and species interaction,

·        Analyze the ecosystem ecology,

·        Evaluate the process of production ecology.
